A TSOGA Mocha (youth wake up) youth in sports programme, organised by Operation Fiela, was held at Kutlwanong Park in Club 2000 on Saturday, aimed at addressing abuse and crime amongst women and children.
The organiser of the event Thabiso Louw said that apart from soccer, volleyball, netball and indigenous games that were played, the programme addressed social cohesion and diversity issues in the community and ethical behaviour in and out of church.
He said that over 500 youths participated in the games including juvenile offenders who were being reintegrated into the community.
“The aim of the programme is to build a crime-free society and to keep children involved in sports and out of crime,” Louw said.
A veteran of the programme William Steenkamp added the insight that boys needed to be given the capacity to become part of the solution of the country.
