Suspected copper cable thieves nabbed at dumping site

WHILE conducting a routine stop-and-search operation this week, the Wrenchville SAPS received information regarding suspected stolen copper cables at a dumping site.

According to Northern Cape police spokesperson Colonel Cherelle Ehlers, the information was swiftly operationalised, leading to the apprehension of three male suspects. Their ages were reported as 21, 27, and 47.

The suspects were caught red-handed, loading the copper cables onto a truck. Law enforcement officials promptly arrested them for possession of suspected stolen property. The estimated value of the seized copper cables is R112,684.

In addition to the arrests, authorities confiscated a Tata truck and a Nissan bakkie believed to have been used in the commission of a crime. The suspects are now awaiting their court appearance.

Ehlers emphasised that combating crimes related to essential infrastructure tampering and theft remains a top priority in the Northern Cape. Law enforcement agencies are committed to addressing such incidents vigorously to safeguard critical infrastructure and maintain public safety.
