A DEVASTATING fire at a residence in Soebatsfontein in the Namakwa District of the Northern Cape claimed the lives of three children on the weekend.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) in Hondeklip Bay is currently investigating the incident.
According to provincial police spokesperson Colonel Cherelle Ehlers, the fire broke out at the residence on Saturday morning at around 7am. Upon arrival at the scene, the police found a 25-year-old woman outside the residence suffering from burn wounds. The woman’s condition is currently unknown.
Inside the residence, a heartbreaking scene unfolded. Three children were found deceased in a bedroom. The victims include two girls, both aged eight, and a two-year-old boy. The identities of the victims have not been released at this time.
Ehlers said the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
