SOL PLAATJE electrical department employee Enrico Jose Convivious died after being critically injured when the Hercules Street sub-station in Herlear exploded.
Sol Plaatje Municipality spokesperson Thabo Mothibi said Convivious succumbed to his injuries in a local private hospital on Tuesday after he sustained severe burn wounds while attending to the sub-station with three other colleagues on Monday morning, at about 9am.
“The three other colleagues are out of danger but are still in hospital,” added Mothibi.
He extended his sincerest condolences to Convivious’s wife, Bianca, their three children, his parents, sibling and extended family.
“Information relating to daily evening vigils, memorial and funeral services shall be released in consultation with the family,” said Mothibi.
Sol Plaatje municipal manager Thapelo Matlala, supported by the municipality’s chaplains, led a prayer session in honour of Convivious on Wednesday morning.
Mothibi said Convivious joined the electrical department in 2016 after being employed in the building maintenance section.
“The executive mayor, Kagisho Sonyoni, accompanied by councillors, visited the three injured colleagues in hospital yesterday (Tuesday) after a council meeting and will also be visiting the bereaved family,” Mothibi added.
