FOUR municipal electricians were injured in an explosion at the Hercules Street sub-station in Herlear, Kimberley, on Monday morning.

Sol Plaatje Municipality spokesperson Thabo Mothibi said the electricians were attending to a cable fault at around 9am when the explosion occurred.

“They were rushed to hospital for immediate medical attention,” said Mothibi.

He advised that a prolonged outage should be expected in parts of Herlear and Beaconsfield due to the circumstances surrounding the explosion.

“The Department of Labour conducted an assessment from 12.30pm before the sub-station could be handed over back to the municipality for repair work to unfold,” said Mothibi.
