THE PRIESKA Magistrate’s Court recently handed down a 15-year direct imprisonment sentence to a 22-year-old man for the rape of a minor boy.
Northern Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Merapelo Pilane said the incident occurred on Sunday, May 21, 2021, at around 10.30pm, in Plakkerskamp.
The victim, who was at his residence at the time, had ventured out to the nearby bushes to relieve himself when he was accosted by the man. The accused threatened the minor with violence and proceeded to rape him.
The crime was interrupted by the victim’s older sister, who caught the accused in the act and chased him away. The incident was promptly reported to the police, leading to the arrest of the accused.
The investigation was spearheaded by Sergeant Riaan van Wyk from the Prieska SAPS Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offences unit. These diligent efforts led to the accused being found guilty and sentenced accordingly.
In addition to the prison sentence, the court declared the accused unfit to possess a firearm. Furthermore, his name is to be entered into the National Register for Sex Offenders.
