A 38-YEAR-old foreign national was arrested in Kimberley on charges of drug dealing.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Timothy Sam said the suspect was arrested by a joint team comprising SAPS, SANDF and Department of Home Affairs officials who were busy executing operations to combat illicit mining on February 8.
“The police followed up on information of non-compliance at a business premises. The members conducted a compliance inspection at the said business premises and confirmed the illegal business activities. The police searched the premises and found suspected drugs with an estimated street value of R88,500, including tik, cat and dagga, as well as cash suspected to be the proceeds of crime,” said Sam.
He added that the suspect was charged with dealing drugs and was expected to appear in the Kimberley Magistrate’s Court soon.
The Northern Cape provincial commissioner, Lieutenant-General Koliswa Otola, noted that the collaboration between law enforcement agencies and the public “assisted greatly in the fight to remove drugs from society”.
