FORMER president Jacob Zuma, who was scheduled to meet his supporters during the last voter registration last week, has postponed his visit to the city until next month.
Umkhonto we Sizwe (MK) Party Northern Cape co-ordinator Papi Tau said they were planning a rally as well as door-to-door visits.
“Of course we will also hand out food parcels. Msholozi will interact, meet and greet the people including the poor, unemployed and vulnerable. If our resources allow, he will tour all five districts of the Province. There is an overwhelming interest in the party. The MK soil is very fertile - more members are signing up every day. We have about 20,000 members in the Province.”
He added that they had convinced people to register to vote in the national general elections.
“A large number of disillusioned voters were intending on staying away from the polls. The MK Party has given them renewed hope. They are trying to scare people away when they say MK is made up of corrupt or ill-disciplined members who were dismissed from the ANC.
“Look at how the Section 106 report at Sol Plaatje municipality was squashed. I was never chased away - I joined voluntarily. It is a fallacy that we will start civil wars - why would we participate in a democratic voting process if that was our purpose?”
Tau indicated that there are high-profile ANC members who had joined the MK Party.
“They don’t want to disclose their allegiances as they may be threatened or lose their jobs.”
He indicated that political structures and any talks of coalitions would be decided upon after the elections.
Tau stated that the party would restore the rightful role of traditional leaders in society.
“Traditional authority will be incorporated into the justice system, land ownership, moral regeneration, combating crime and social cohesion.”
