The Northern Cape matric results in numbers

THE NORTHERN Cape 2023 National Senior Certificate (NSC) pass rate of 75.84% marks an improvement of 1.6% on the 2022 pass rate of 74.2%.

The number of registered candidates for the NSC examination dropped from 13,831 in 2022 to 13,032 in 2023.

Out of the total registered candidates, 12,842 wrote the exams in 2023, while 13,574 candidates wrote in 2022.

A total of 9,740 candidates passed the NSC examination in 2023, resulting in an overall pass rate of 75.8%.

The number of Bachelor's Degree passes stands at 3,851 in 2023, a percentage of 29.9%, which marks a decrease of -0.08% from 2022.

The Class of 2023 achieved 1,502 distinctions (11.7%), a decrease of -2.2% from 2022.

A total of 3,102 candidates did not pass the 2023 matric exams, compared to 3,502 candidates who did not pass in 2022.

A total of 1,076 candidates were progressed in 2023, while the number of learners who were progressed in 2022 stood at 1,012.

The total of incomplete results stood at 190 in 2023, compared to 257 in 2022.

In terms of mathematics and physical sciences, 2,725 candidates sat for mathematics in 2023, as compared to 2,847 in 2022.

A total of 1,552 (56.9%) candidates passed mathematics, an increase of 5.5% from 2022.

A total of 2,075 candidates wrote physical Sciences in 2023, compared to 2,193 in 2022.

The total number of learners who passed physical sciences stands at 1,395 (67.2%) in 2023, a decrease of -2.3% from 2022.

Out of a total of 145 schools, nine schools in the Province achieved a 100% pass rate in 2023.

Two schools achieved a pass rate of between 20% to 39%, which is the lowest pass rate bracket in the Province

Twenty schools performed below the average of 60%, as compared to 27 in 2022.
