THE GALESHEWE police have urged community members and SA Post Office employees to be cautious and vigilant during periods of pension payments at post offices, pay points and ATMs.
This follows after three men tried to rob the post office in Morgan Street in Galeshewe.
Police spokesperson Colonel Cherel Ehlers said the incident occurred on Tuesday, October 31, at about 3.50pm, and the police are investigating an attempted robbery case.
“It is alleged that three unknown men entered the post office at approximately 3.50pm . One of the men was armed with a pistol and forced the security guard and a post office employee to the floor and demanded the keys to the safe. The cashiers who were apparently in possession of the keys were not on the premises.
“It is alleged the men tried to break open the safe, but were however unsuccessful and fled the scene in a white Volkswagen Polo.
“Anyone who might have information in connection with the incident is advised to contact Captain Stephanus Barrow on 071 685 8738,” said Ehlers.
