THE NOUPOORT community recently celebrated the 100th birthday of one of its most cherished elders, Sara Thomas, who is fondly known as Ouma Fytjie.
Born on August 23, 1923, on Arundel Farm close to the small Northern Cape Town, Ouma Fytjie has been an integral part of this community for more than 70 years, where she is lauded for her care and commitment to the lives of others.
Noupoort Wind Farm generously sponsored this momentous occasion in partnership with the Inam Inkosi Home for Elderly and Sick People and the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa).
The festivities included a hearty lunch at a local restaurant, a beautifully crafted birthday cake, a skilled photographer capturing the precious moments and thoughtful birthday gifts.
Ouma Fytjie's life of selflessness and community building was highlighted during the celebration.
She has helped raise numerous children, many of whom have grown up to achieve remarkable success in the fields of education and health.
Sandisiwe Mntonintshi, the ecconomic development manager for Noupoort Wind Farm, lauded Ouma Fytjie for her legacy of kindness and dedication, which has undoubtedly left an indelible mark on the Noupoort community and beyond.
“Ouma Fytjie's remarkable journey through life has touched the hearts of all who know her. She has been an integral part of our community, and her enduring spirit and contributions are celebrated with great enthusiasm,” said Mntonintshi.
Noupoort Wind Farm funds Inam Inkosi Home for Elderly and Sick People as part of its extensive socio-economic programme, enabling the care facility to not only fulfil basic needs but to also contribute to the overall well-being and longevity of the elderly.
Belinda Maliti, managing director of Inam Inkosi, said that Noupoort Wind Farm has been a consistent supporter of the home since 2020.
“The support has made a significant impact on the lives of many families in need, including Ouma Fytjie’s family,” said Maliti.
“Their support stands as a beacon of hope, providing relief to those in need. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Noupoort Wind Farm for their invaluable assistance.”
