DIAMANTVELD High School has announced that its open day for Grade 8 pupils will take place next Tuesday, May 9, starting at 6pm.
Parents and pupils who are entering Grade 8 next year are invited to attend and explore what the school has to offer.
With a rich sporting history, Diamantveld High School (DHS) provides pupils with opportunities to participate in a wide range of sports, including rugby, netball, hockey, tennis, badminton, athletics and cricket. DHS also recognises many sporting codes outside of the school.
Principal Leon Victor said that the school is committed to elevating its sporting codes to a higher level of performance and, therefore, participates in sporting events not only in Kimberley but also throughout the province and the country.
DHS prides itself on five core values: gratitude, compassion, honesty, respect and discipline. According to Victor, the school's opportunities are one of the many reasons why it is an excellent choice for pupils.
"We are one of the most competitive schools in the region, not only in terms of sports, academics and cultural activities, but in all of them. A learner's balance is where we stand out," he explained.
The recent Absa Wildeklawer demonstrated that Diamantveld can host the biggest school sports tournament in the country. The school is proud of this achievement and sees it as another reason for pupils to join and be part of the school.
One more reason to look at Diamantveld as a high school option is their two hostels for pupils. The Dugmore Hostel accommodates Grade 8 and 9 boys and the JP Auret Hostel accommodates Grade 10 to 12 boys and 8 to 12 girls.
Victor said that “character education” is more about how you behave toward each other than what you say to each other. However, all attempts at character development will be futile if the focus is not seriously and purposefully placed on building positive relationships and developing a caring school community.
"It is important to create an environment where learners and teachers experience being noticed and truly part of the school and feel like they belong here.
"Character education is the deliberate effort of families, schools and communities to help children and young people understand, buy into and live out core values."
"We should not enter Diamantveld with the knowledge that the school is there to serve our needs, but we must approach the school with anticipation and hope that we are part of something special, something that will continue to flow within our veins for years to come.
"When you live by values such as respect, responsibility, honesty and hard work, then academic performance rises, interpersonal relationships improve and the school becomes a much more pleasant place for learners and teachers.”
Victor concluded by saying that he welcomes all parents whose children will attend Grade 8 next year to the open day to see why Diamantveld is the best choice for pupils in Kimberley.
