Identikit: SAPS
THE POSTMASBURG SAPS Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) unit is investigating a rape case after a 47-year-old woman was raped in Uil Street, Newton, Postmasburg on January 16.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Timothy Sam said preliminary investigations indicate that the victim was asleep in her shanty when she was awoken by someone on top of her, who then raped her.
Sam explained that the victim lived with her eight-year-old son.
“She woke up, pushed the suspect away, but the suspect threatened to kill her if she screamed.”
Sam said that the suspect raped her and then fled the scene.
“Out of fear that the suspect might come back, she decided to go and sleep in another shanty with her boy,” added Sam.
The police have compiled an identikit to try and identify the suspect.
“The police are requesting the public to assist with information that may lead to the apprehension and arrest of the suspect and the investigation of the case,” said Sam.
Anyone with information that can assist the police is urged to contact the investigating officer, Detective Constable Keamogetse Besson, on 079 872 0458 or 08600 10111 or via the MySAPS app.
