TWO WOMEN are expected to appear in the Kimberley Magistrate's Court soon after they were arrested for contravening the National Credit Act.

Police spokesperson Captain Olebogeng Tawana said the two suspects, who are 70 and 41 years old respectively, were arrested during a joint police operation.

"A take-down operation led by members of the Frances Baard District Crime Intelligence, members of Provincial Organised Crime and officials from the National Credit Regulator intercepted cash loan sharks "Mashonisa" on two separate premises in Galeshewe. The alleged cash loan sharks have been under police surveillance as they were believed to be in contravention of the National Credit Act,” said Tawana.

“On Thursday, November 10, 2022, simultaneous premises raiding were conducted in Seochwareng Street and Mampe Street in Galeshewe for the illegal practice of retaining consumers’ personal documents, in contravention of the National Credit Act, 34 of 2005," Tawana said.

Tawana said various items were seized during the operation.

"Items seized on the suspects’ premises included four identity documents, four death certificates, two notices of death, five copies of identification documents, one sworn affidavit and two black books with records of loans and cash to the value of R25,000.”

Tawana said the suspects are expected to appear in the Galeshewe Magistrate’s Court soon.
