THE GALESHEWE SAPS Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit is investigating the rape and sexual assault of a 26-year-old woman that took place in an open piece of veld near Homelite in Kimberley on September 2.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Timothy Sam said preliminary investigations indicated that an unknown male person entered the yard of the woman’s home in Thutlo Street, Bloemanda, as she was trying to lock her gate.

“The suspect grabbed and pulled the victim into the dark, open veld and raped her,” said Sam.

He added that the suspect was wearing a black hoodie, was light in complexion, of slender build, had short black hair, a bit of moustache and spoke Afrikaans.

“The police are requesting the public to assist with information that may lead to the apprehension and arrest of the suspect and the investigation of the case,” said Sam.

He said that the investigating officer, Warrant Officer Aretha Classen, could be contacted on 071 751 3184 or 08600 10111 or via the MySAPS app.

“All information will be treated confidentially,” he added.
