Sol Plaatje Municipality spokesperson Thoko Riet said five suspects were arrested and charged with the theft of municipal property on August 22.

“They allegedly forcefully removed the devil’s fork fencing from the ABC Cemetery in Galeshewe. They were taken into police custody,” said Riet.

She thanked the community and the local councillor for alerting law enforcement when they noticed the suspicious activity.

Meanwhile, the electricity supply was reconnected in Galeshewe on Monday after a bakkie crashed into an electricity pole on the weekend, leaving several areas without power.

Riet stated that electricians restored the power in Tyala Street as outages were experienced in Sobantu, Tyala, Malunga, Phajane and Hulana streets.
