THE WATER supply to Kgomotso High School in Pampierstad has been temporarily fixed in time for the National Senior Certificate examinations that started on Thursday.
The chairperson of the school governing body (SGB), Chris Sekgweleo, said that the Northern Cape Department of Education had arranged for the problem with the borehole to be fixed on Wednesday evening.
“The contractor worked throughout the night. The pump that was connected to the playground was diverted to supply water to the school. However, this is not a permanent solution. Thankfully we were able to flush the toilets that have been blocked for some time,” said Sekgweleo.
He pointed out that the school had reported the issue with borehole to the Department of Education in June already. Parents and the SGB had raised funds but were unable to restore the water supply to the school.
The matric examinations will continue until December 15. There are a total of 23 928 registered candidates in the Northern Cape.
The Department of Basic Education indicated that the marking of the 2020 matric exams would be completed by January 22, 2021 and that the results would be released on February 23.
