Dept office and traffic station set to reopen

BOTH the provincial office of the Department of Transport, Safety and Liaison and the Padkamp provincial traffic station are expected to reopen on Friday after they were temporarily closed for deep-cleaning and decontamination on Wednesday.

Officials had earlier this week complained that no regulations were followed, including disinfection or closure of the offices, after Covid-19 positive cases were reported at the two buildings.

The head of communication at the Northern Cape Department of Transport, Safety and Liaison, Rennie Andrias, stated that two employees from the provincial office and the Kimberley traffic station were in self-quarantine after testing positive for Covid-19.

"All close contacts will be tested and placed in self-isolation for the required period. We have handed over the cases to the Department of Health to conduct contact tracing. We are guided by the guidelines issued by the Department of Public Services and Administration."

Andrias added that the two buildings were closed for deep-cleaning and decontamination on Wednesday, July 29, at 1pm.

"Employees who were not in close contact with the positive cases are expected to return to work on Friday.

"We wish our colleagues a speedy recovery and continue to encourage the public to be safe."
