BAIC South Africa has launched the Beijing X55 Plus in South Africa, which is an upgraded version of X55 that was first introduced in late 2022.
Revealed at the Festival of Motoring at Kyalami over the weekend, the X55 Plus boasts subtle design changes including new ‘Blade’ design alloy wheels and quad exhaust outlets.
Prices remain the same as the outgoing version, with the X55 Plus 1.5T Dynamic kicking things off at R429,900 and the midrange Elite priced at R469,900. Topping the range is the Premium, priced at R509,900, or R514,900 for the two-tone version.
On that note the X55 Plus is available in a range of “vibrant” colours, including Turquoise Blue, Scarlet Red, Electric Yellow, Krypton Grey, Metallic Grey and Polar White.
The revised vehicle boasts a full black interior, equipped with an enhanced range of features, including Easy Connection, which allows for phone mirroring on the infotainment screen.
At base level, the Dynamic comes with a 10.1 inch central touchscreen, 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless phone charging, WIFI connectivity, manual air conditioning with rear ventilation, refrigerated central armrest, rear park distance control, cruise control, six airbags, ESP stability control and Emergency Braking Assist.
The Elite gains a panoramic sunroof, powered tailgate, dual-zone climate control, leather-covered steering wheel, electric front seat adjustment, wireless phone charger, front park distance control, heated and folding mirrors and pre-tensioners for the seat belts. It’s worrying that the latter is not fitted to the base model.
Over and above all that, the Premium is equipped with heated and ventilated front seats, with memory control for the driver’s perch, reclining rear seats, 360-degree panoramic camera, Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Detection, Adaptive Cruise Control and Autonomous Emergency Braking. It also gains pre-tensioned rear seat belts.
Visually the Dynamic is fitted with 18-inch alloy wheels, while the Elite and Premium variants roll on 19-inch wheels.
All models are powered by a 1.5-litre turbopetrol engine that pushes 130kW and 305Nm.
It pairs with a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox.
Beijing claims a combined fuel consumption figure of 7.7 litres per 100km for the X55 Plus.
It comes with a five-year or 150,000km warranty but the service plan will cost you extra.
