JAC Motors has expanded its local workhorse line-up with the introduction of the new T6 2.0L CTi single-cab that forms part of JAC’s broader global rollout of the model in right-hand-drive markets, following its introduction in left-hand-drive regions.

Engine

The T6 is powered by JAC’s 2.0-litre common-rail turbo-diesel engine, which is already familiar from the T8 range, producing 102kW and 320Nm of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox, with the emphasis on low and mid-range torque.

JAC claims a combined-cycle consumption figure of 6.9l/100km, and with a 76-litre fuel tank, the bakkie is capable of covering more than 1 100 kilometers between fill-ups.

Chassis

Underneath, the T6 uses a galvanised ladder-frame chassis with a double-wishbone independent front suspension and a leaf-sprung rear setup designed to balance load-carrying ability with acceptable ride comfort when unladen.

Ground clearance is rated at 197mm, while the 6.2-metre turning circle should make it manageable in urban and industrial settings.

The T6 measures 5,315mm long, 1,830mm wide and 1,815 mm high, riding on a 3,090 mm wheelbase. The load box offers a full 1,000kg payload and measures 2,260 mm in length; a sprayed, corrosion-resistant bed liner is fitted as standard.

There are also external rope hooks, cargo tie-down points and a rear step bumper, with the Lux derivative adding a cab protector.

Inside standard equipment includes air-conditioning, electric windows, power steering and a height-adjustable multi-function steering wheel.

Interior

Inside standard equipment includes air-conditioning, electric windows, power steering and a height-adjustable multi-function steering wheel. Storage space behind and beneath the seats has been prioritised, and both derivatives feature a centre armrest.

Safety features include dual airbags, ABS with electronic brake-force distribution, front disc and rear drum brakes, rear park distance sensors, and driver aids such as seatbelt warnings and headlamp levelling.

The Lux model adds a reverse camera and leatherette trim, while infotainment duties are handled by a nine-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Comfort version gets a simpler radio and Bluetooth setup.

JAC says the T6 positions itself as a no-nonsense alternative in the one-ton single-cab segment, appealing to buyers who value fuel efficiency, a proven drivetrain and a practical load bed over brand prestige or lifestyle extras.

The T6 4x4 derivatives will launch mid-year, expanding options for buyers who require off-road capability.

The JAC T6 2.0L CTi single-cab range is sold with a five-year/100,000km warranty and five years of roadside assistance. Service intervals are set at 10,000 km for the first service and every 15,000 km thereafter.
