SOUTH African rapper and television personality Nadia Nakai has taken a bold stand against critics of her fashion choices, leaving no room for doubt about her commitment to personal expression.

Known for her unique blend of streetwear and high fashion, Nakai has long captivated audiences with her eclectic style, but recent backlash has prompted her to speak out.

In a lively Instagram post, the award-winning artist shared her thoughts, stating, “Here’s a rant on this Good Sunday. Cos I’m tired of y’all…(laughing face emoji). Grab a pen and paper quickly.”

The playful tone of her introduction soon gave way to a fierce declaration of individuality. “I will wear what I wanna wear, I’ve always been that b#tch,” she remarked defiantly.

Through her candid video, Nakai made it clear that the public scrutiny surrounding her looks would not dictate her wardrobe choices.

“I don’t understand. I called my whole album ‘Nadia Naked’; the makeup brand is called ‘Naked Without’. I don’t know how you’re shocked,” Nakai explained, highlighting the fact that her artistic expression extends far beyond her clothing and into her entire persona.

She emphasised this point by declaring, “Nothing new. You’re gonna get more of it when I feel like I wanna be a bad b#tch, imma be a bad b#tch, get over it!”

The critique of her outfits intensified due to one specific Instagram post, where many users expressed concerns over her revealing attire that showed a hint of her bum.

Comments ranged from the disapproving - “Why do you wear this kind of thing in most of your pics? The dressing code is not okay,” to more judgmental remarks - “This is disgusting. Showing off your buttcrack is not ladylike. Go back home and get dressed.”

However, Nakai was unfazed by the backlash and did not shy away from addressing some of the more personal attacks she received, particularly those targeting her family.

“So all of you people’s mothers, get out of my f#cking comments, I’m not here to raise your kids,” she shot back.

Nakai went on to clarify her concern for child safety, pointing out, “Don’t be talking about Kairo. Kairo is not on Instagram. She’s not scrolling. She’s a child. She’s supervised by parental supervision.”

With these words, she sent a clear message: policing women’s bodies, especially her own, is tiresome, and she will not be silenced.
