AFTER more than 20 years, US singer and songwriter Madonna and British icon Elton John have finally put an end to their 20-year beef.

During the “Saturday Night Live” performance on April 5, Madonna and John reconciled and put the past behind them. Taking to social media, Madonna announced that she has reconciled and buried the hatchet with John.

The 66-year-old captioned her post, “We finally Buried the Hatchet!!! I went to see @eltonjohn perform on SNL this weekend!!! WOW. I remembered when I was in high school-I snuck out of the house one night to see Elton perform live in Detroit!

"It was an unforgettable performance that helped me understand the transformative power of music.”

She added that she was still in high school when she saw John perform and that moment for her transformed her life because that was when she realised that it is okay to be different and to stand out.

“Over the decades, it hurt me to know that someone I admired so much shared his dislike of me publicly as an artist. I didn’t understand it. I was told Elton John was the musical guest on SNL and I decided to go.

“I needed to go backstage and confront him. When I met him, the first thing out of his mouth was ‘Forgive Me’ and the wall between us fell. Forgiveness is a powerful tool.

"Within minutes, we were hugging. Then he told me he had written a song for me, and he wanted to collaborate. It was like everything came full circle.”

Why were Madonna and John beefing?

Their fight started in 2002 after John publicly shared his distaste for Madonna’s Bond theme “Die Another Day”.

Throughout the years, the British singer-songwriter has made several jabs at Madonna, which include using an awards acceptance speech at the 2004 Q Awards to accuse her of lip-syncing.

John said: "Madonna, best live act? F--- off. Since when has lip-syncing been live?"

"Anyone who lip syncs in public on stage when you pay 75 pounds to see them should be shot. Thank you very much,” he added.
