THE William Humphreys Art Gallery (WHAG) in Kimberley is proud to present "For Some, the Pathway to Education Lies Between Thorns", a solo exhibition of renowned South African artist, writer, and poet Peter E Clarke.

Drawn from the WHAG permanent collection and the Unisa Art Collection, the exhibition brings together Clarke’s linocuts, woodcuts, paintings, and watercolour drawings that critically engage themes of education, spatial inequality, mobility, and social justice, concerns that remain profoundly relevant within South Africa’s contemporary social and educational landscape.

The exhibition, curated by Chepape Makgato, Chief Curator at WHAG, will travel to the Unisa Art Gallery in Pretoria, showcasing Clarke's powerful artworks that critique education, spatial inequality, and social justice.

The exhibition's title, inspired by Clarke's 2008 artwork, highlights the struggles of accessing education, particularly in rural communities. His art is a poignant reminder of the ongoing struggles in South Africa's higher education sector.

"For Some, the Pathway to Education Lies Between Thorns" is a must-see, offering a glimpse into Clarke's enduring legacy. Don't miss this opportunity to experience his powerful legacy.
