Before smart TVs were a thing and streaming services were in their infancy, there was one device that allowed its users the amazing ability to stream their favourite shows and movies on Netflix.

That device, of course, is the PlayStation 3 (PS3). The console, released by Sony way back in 2007, was one of the first multimedia devices of its kind.

In 2009, Netflix made a deal with Sony to make the streaming service available on the gaming console.

Next month, though, that deal will come to an end after 17 years.

PS3 Users: Netflix Support Ends After March 2, 2026

That’s right, from the beginning of next month, the PS3 will no longer support Netflix.

The news was communicated this week to PS3 users with the message “Unfortunately, Netflix will no longer be available on this device after March 2, 2026. Visit Netflix.com/compatibledevices to see a list of supported devices.”

And just like that, it will signal the end of an era.

Unsurprisingly, though, there are not too many people who still own a PS3, and it’s probably only collectors that may be feeling left out in the cold.

Interestingly, Netflix was actually founded way back in August 1997. It began as a DVD rental service via mail. Netflix launched its website a few months later in August 1998 and by 1999 began offering a subscription service.

It was only in 2007 that Netflix began ‘streaming’ over the internet. Only in 2013 did it release its first original content with House of Cards.

By 2016, though, it became a global giant as it expanded its streaming services to over 130 countries.
