Matthew Breetzke began his career in domestic cricket with Eastern Province and later played for teams such as the Warriors, Nelson Mandela Bay Giants, Durban’s Super Giants and Northamptonshire in England’s domestic competitions. He also featured in the IPL with Lucknow Super Giants in 2025.

If you thought the Sunrisers Eastern Cape, or the Orange Army as they say, were done celebrating their latest SA20 triumph, think again.
For Matthew Breetzke, the man who played a crucial role in the Sunrisers’ win over the Pretoria Capitals, the champagne is still flowing and for very good reason.
Not only is he riding the high of another massive cricketing moment, but the right-handed batter is savouring both sporting success and personal joy as he prepares to say "I do" to his long-time partner, Megan Price.
Breetzke, one of South African cricket’s most exciting batting talents from Gqeberha, has quietly built a reputation as a big-moment player.
Born and bred in Gqeberha, the right-hander has been on the national radar for years (calm down, he is not that old), coming through the SA Under-19 ranks before stepping into the professional game with confidence and calm well beyond his age.
I had the chance to watch a few of the matches this season, and honestly, being there in the stands was something else. You could feel the tension, the nervous energy, and the little bursts of excitement as the game swung back and forth.
The way everyone around you reacted, the shared groans, cheers, and gasps, make being at a live match completely different from watching it on TV.
“This is one of the most special victories in my career,” Breetzke said afterwards. “And to have this victory shared with an ex-schoolmate of mine was really special.”
That schoolmate, of course, is Tristan Stubbs - another Grey High product - proving once again that PE continues to punch above its weight when it comes to cricketing talent.
But as much as the win meant to him, there’s another part of Breetzke’s life that’s just as important: his relationship with his fiancée.
The two have been together for around ten years (yes, we love a long-game love story) and got engaged late last year. Breetzke often credits Price as being his rock, praising the love and support she’s given him through every high and low of his career.
“My partner Megan has been there with me through the ups and downs,” he shared. “This next chapter is something I’m really excited about.”
Their love story has been a cornerstone of his journey, a constant source of strength amid the high stakes of professional sport.
Looking ahead, Breetzke has his sights firmly set on the 50-over World Cup and continuing to grow as a professional cricketer.
"One goal when it comes to sport is to keep improving and winning games! I love winning games," Breetzke added. " I’m not focused on statistics, but on how I can contribute to a win. I look forward to the journey of being a professional athlete in the cricket space."
For now, though, it’s the perfect double celebration: a championship medal in one hand and a wedding ring waiting in the other.
From the pitch to the aisle, Breetzke is winning, and we love to see it.
