THE DIAMOND Gospel Music Awards is set to return for its second annual edition, with organisers promising a bigger and more inclusive celebration of gospel music in the Northern Cape and across South Africa.
After a successful debut in Kimberley last year — where more than 50 gospel artists competed across 20 award categories — the event will now take its next step in Upington, expanding its footprint and reach within the province.
Founder Dr Dorothy Mazingane said the awards were created to recognise the full spectrum of gospel music, while also offering encouragement and opportunity to artists working in the genre.
“The Diamond Gospel Awards is not only a platform of recognition but a beacon of hope to the industry,” she said.
The build-up to the awards will begin early in the year, starting with an information workshop for artists on Friday, February 6, followed by a sponsorship launch. As part of the registration drive, a pre-registration event will be held in Platfontein at the new computer centre on February 14, ahead of the official registration opening on February 15.
Organisers say these engagements are aimed at ensuring artists are well informed and supported as they prepare to take part in the awards process.
The second Diamond Gospel Music Awards ceremony is scheduled to take place on September 26 and is expected to bring together artists, promoters, managers and other industry creatives for a night that goes beyond trophies, offering space for networking, collaboration and growth.
With representation expected across both traditional and contemporary gospel styles, this year’s event is set to draw a diverse audience of gospel music lovers, further strengthening the platform’s role in showcasing and uplifting the genre in the Northern Cape.
