Siya Kolisi's departure from the Sharks has become a poignant reality for his fans in Durban.

The celebrated rugby player took to Instagram to share an appreciation post for the city he has come to call home.

In his post, Kolisi included a series of photos and videos that showcased his time in Durban as a Sharks player.

He shared moments from enjoying dinner with his family at their Ballito home, taking walks along the beach, and training with his teammates at the Hollywoodbets Kings Park Stadium, affectionately known as "The Shark Tank".

In the caption, he expressed his love for the area with a simple, “031 ❤️.”

The post resonated deeply with local fans, evoking sadness as they reflected on his impending exit from the Sharks at the end of the local rugby season.

Fans expressed their feelings in the comments, with @lindleymarise saying, “031 is the place to be, Captain. We are going to miss you. I need my limited edition top signed before you leave 🥺.”

@ruthanngray added, “We are going to miss you!!!” while @itskatieb lamented, “So you leaving just like that 🥺🦈🖤.”

Another fan, @ethgourley, encouraged him, saying, “You see, bra, Durban loves you. Don’t vy (go).”

Kolisi’s contract with the Sharks officially ends in July 2026, after which he will return to Cape Town to join the DHL Stormers.

His decision to leave was made in the best interests of his children, as he aims to be closer to his family base in the Cape.

“The Sharks have been a special part of my journey,” said Kolisi.

“From the players and coaches to the staff and supporters, this is a team with strong values and a real sense of family. I have loved being part of this group and especially enjoyed seeing the younger guys develop and gain confidence.

"While I had hoped to complete my career at the Sharks, I have to be there for my family, who were unable to relocate to Durban. This decision wasn’t easy, but it is about being closer to my kids. I leave with nothing but respect for The Sharks and real belief in where this team is heading.”

Kolisi officially moved to Durban to join the Sharks in February 2021, ending an 11-year association with Western Province in Cape Town.

He resides in the Ballito area during his time with the Durban-based franchise.

Additionally, Kolisi played club rugby overseas for the French Top 14 side Racing 92 in Paris, joining after the 2023 Rugby World Cup and departing in 2024 to return to the Sharks in South Africa.

“Siya’s time in Durban has been defined by leadership, professionalism and an unwavering commitment to the game,” stated The Sharks.
