Texas oil field drama “Landman” has been renewed for a third season.

The original drama series stars Oscar-winning actor Billy Bob Thornton, Oscar-nominated actors Demi Moore and Andy Garcia, Oscar-nominated actor Sam Elliott, Ali Larter, Jacob Lofland, Michelle Randolph, Paulina Chávez, Kayla Wallace, Mark Collie, James Jordan, and Colm Feore.

The first season of “Landman” was one of the biggest shows of 2024-25, averaging 15.8 million viewers in Nielsen’s 35-day, cross-platform ratings.

The second season’s premiere nabbed the biggest season or series premiere in Paramount+’s history with 9.2 million views worldwide over its first few days.

Thornton scored a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor in a Drama Series for his role as Tommy Norris.

In "Landman," Thornton plays an overseer of an oil-drilling operation in West Texas. He manages crews in the world’s largest oil field, dealing with cartel competition. It’s a world where roughnecks and wildcat billionaires are fuelling a boom so big it’s reshaping the climate, the economy, and the geopolitics of the region.

The series is co-created by Taylor Sheridan and Christian Wallace and executive produced by Sheridan, David C. Glasser, David Hutkin, Ron Burkle, Bob Yari, Wallace, Billy Bob Thornton, Geyer Kosinski, Michael Friedman and Stephen Kay.

Wallace, in an explanation to the Hollywood Reporter, detailed the long-term, multi-season strategy for "Landman."

“It’s kind of a reset [for season three]. We have these characters entering into different dynamics with one another, and now we have T.L., Tommy and Cooper all working at the same company, but not under the auspices of this larger corporation. It’s now family-run, very small, starting from almost scratch.

“That’s a whole new dynamic for them, along with these other characters from M-Tex who are taking a pretty big gamble. Gambling is kind of a motif this season. You have Angela in the casino, but you have Cami gambling on this as well, and now Tommy is kind of gambling on himself, which he has been reluctant to do.

“When we meet him in the pilot, he’s talking about how things didn’t work out for him, so he ended up with nothing and working for M-Tex for his buddy Monty. A lot has changed in his life. We’ve seen him grow a lot over the course of season two, and with his family dynamics.

“Now he’s kind of going back to the roulette wheel and betting on himself. So, it’s exciting and also a little nerve-racking.”

Season one of “Landman” is streaming on Showmax for local audiences to watch.
