Lynn Forbes, mother of the late South African rapper AKA, recently shared a heartwarming memory of her family on Instagram.

In a post featuring a video GIF of herself with AKA, she looked back on a weekly tradition she called "Forbes Fun Fridays".

“Kiernan, Kairo and I had this thing called Forbes Fun Fridays, where we did unplanned, random things together, when possible, on the Fridays when Kairo came to stay with Kiernan for the week and I would move in for the week to help him take care of Kairo,” Lynn wrote.

“Those were special times," she added.

For Lynn, the Fridays were more than just a routine. They were moments of connection, laughter and family closeness.

“We would be silly, do normal family stuff and laugh so much … and sometimes we won’t agree 😅😂,” she reflected, highlighting the realness of family life, the mix of joy, fun and occasional disagreements that make memories feel authentic.

Since AKA’s tragic passing in 2023, Lynn has been open about how she has coped: leaning into routines with her loved ones, holding tight to moments of connection and remembering the laughter he brought into their lives.

In earlier posts she admitted that some days she’s “a warrior,” some days “a broken mess” and most days, a bit of both, but that she must keep standing and fighting through each day.

She also spoke about grief as something that never truly ends, learning to live with it and “grow around it.”

In another reflection she explored the idea of “Vilomah", a Sanskrit term meaning grieving a child against nature’s order and shared that losing a child alters one’s identity because the role that defined you is now incomplete.

For Lynn, the Forbes Fun Fridays are a reminder that even in the midst of grief, life continues in small, meaningful ways.

Reflecting on these moments publicly, she honours the joy her son brought into their lives while acknowledging the pain of his absence.

In other recent developments regarding AKA’s case, the Correctional Services Department has moved the seven men charged with the murders of AKA and his friend Tebello "Tibz" Motsoane from Westville Prison to Ebongweni Super Maximum Correctional Centre in Kokstad.

This was confirmed during the third court appearance of the two Ndimande brothers, Siyabonga Gezani and Malusi Dave, who were extradited from Eswatini on November 25, 2025.

The matter has been postponed to February 20 to allow all processes to unfold, including the possibility of relocating the accused back to Westville so their legal team can consult effectively.
