The number of South African titles on the global streaming platform Netflix is growing, and in 2026, viewers will be treated to more local productions.
Netflix South Africa has announced several titles that are on the 2026 slate, and they have audiences ready to set their reminders.
New to the slate is “180”, a gritty thriller anchored by a strong Black male lead. The film stars some of the country’s most respected acting talent, Desmond Dube, Fana Mokoena, Prince Grootboom, Warren Masemola and Bongile Mantsai.
The film explores the pressures of everyday South African life through the story of Zak, a reformed gangster whose attempt at a quiet life is shattered by a single, life-altering incident, which puts him on a path of revenge.
Dube is no stranger to Netflix drama; he has been on “Marked” and “Magenta Coal” (2023), and is also known for his role as Uncle Shadrack in the Christmas series “How to Ruin Christmas”.
Masemola joined the second season of “Fatal Seduction” last year, joining Grootboom, who has been on the series since its debut.
Actor and politician Mokoena has viewers excited to see him take on another captivating role. Last year, Mokoena made a powerful return to the screen with his role on “Masinga – The Calli” streaming on Showmax.
In 2024, the renowned actor turned politician called it quits as a Member of Parliament of the Economic Freedom Fighters. He has since been appointed as a leader of the Mayibuye Consultation Process.
Mantsai is currently dazzling viewers on the last season of long-running e.tv soapie “Scandal”.
A premiere date for “180” has not yet been announced.
