Kim Kardashian is in the doghouse with PETA after gifting her four kids individual puppies for Christmas.

The reality star shared the news on her Instagram Stories, posting a photo of the tiny Pomeranians with the caption: "Each kid got a puppy."

Kardashian shares North, 12, Saint, 10, Chicago, 7, and six-year-old Psalm with her ex-husband, Kanye West.

PETA founder Ingrid Newkirk didn’t hold back, criticising Kardashian for buying the dogs from a breeder rather than adopting from a shelter.

"Puppies are not plushies, and it’s a damn shame that Kim missed the chance to be a spokesperson for shelter pups and instead is being rightly slammed on social media for that ... Ignoring the homeless animals crisis is inexcusably callous," said Newkirk.

Additionally, Newkirk said that Kardashian can “make some amends now by sending their kids to volunteer at a local shelter.”

She also suggested the reality star can fund “a local shelter adopt-a-thon or at least one spay day to help stop the growing homeless puppy crisis.”

In a follow-up Christmas Eve vlog, Kardashian defended the decision by showing how much her kids wanted the pets.

In the video, her daughter, Chicago, tells her that a puppy is what she wants "the most" for Christmas. Kardashian also shared that her son Saint had been "begging God" for a puppy during his bedtime prayers.

This isn't the first time Kim and PETA have clashed.

In 2023, the organisation called her out for keeping her dogs, Sushi and Saké, in a decorated area in her garage.

PETA argued that dogs are "pack animals" who belong inside the house with their family, not tucked away in a separate space.
