Looks like there’s a crack in Barbie’s dreamhouse, and the internet wasted absolutely no time zooming in. December might be festive, but online it’s been pure chaos, especially in entertainment circles.
This time, South Africa’s golden girl, Tyla, found herself trending. She is being accused of co-signing a brutal post aimed at American rapper Nicki Minaj.
The drama started on X when fans noticed that Tyla appeared to have reposted a message from a Minaj fan account that was anything but kind.
The post essentially told Minaj to pack it up and disappear from public life, claiming her time was over and questioning her mental stability.
“Keep that album. Delete social media and hide yourself from the public. Just go away and never come back. You’re done. It’s done. You are too mentally insane to be in the public eye anymore. It was a good run. You accomplished a lot, revived an entire genre, but it’s over now," the tweet reads.
Naturally, the internet did what it does best: panic, predict doom and write Tyla’s career obituary before lunch. Some users warned that this was the kind ofHollywood misstep that could cost a young artist dearly.
Because apparently, having an opinion - or even looking like you do - is a punishable offence these days.
The “Chanel” singer was quickly accused of supporting the anti-Nicki sentiment after the repost circulated. Although it was later removed, the damage had already been done. Fans were split down the middle: was it intentional shade or an innocent slip of the thumb?
Add Tyla’s friendly rapport with Cardi B, Minaj's longtime rival (who knows if that is even real), and suddenly, the internet spies were doing the most.
Tyla, for her part, tried to shut it down with humour.
She suggested the repost wasn’t intentional, quoting Hannah Montana’s “Nobody’s Perfect” in a cheeky post: “In trouble on the net again. #everybodymakesmistakes #everybodyhasthosedays #hacked.”
This comes at a time when Minaj herself has been under intense scrutiny.
The rapper has recently raised eyebrows with her political commentary, including posts praising President Donald Trump and taking jabs at former Vice President Kamala Harris.
This has surprised many fans, given that Minaj was once openly critical of Trump’s immigration policies and celebrated LGBTQ+ communities through her music. Lately, however, her online presence has ventured into controversial territory, sparking heated debate across social media timelines.
Minaj has also lost thousands of international fans after her biggest fan page in Brazil announced that it has shut down its operations following her recent homophobic tweets.
