Tragic irony: DJ Warras killed days after joking about his own death

The internet is reeling from the unexpected death of South African DJ and radio personality, Warras Stock (known professionally as DJ Warras).

The shock is amplified by the fact that the late DJ had recently made disturbing comments suggesting that his life was in danger after a news article was published about him and seemingly foreshadowing his own death.

The post, which was screenshotted and shared on the DJ's Twitter account, stated: "DJ Warras weighs in on 'Cat' Matlala’s unsettling stillness as Glynnis Breytenbach fires tough questions his way, and he gives Matlala a one-word label that sent chills down Mzansi.”

The late DJ captioned his repost, suspecting Brieflyza of trying to get him killed and adding, "I thought we were homies."

Fans engaged with the post, with some jokingly commenting "rest in peace" in advance, to which the Warras also responded with humour.

He chillingly expressed his hope to survive December in a reply to a fan, stating, “Eish… I’m hoping to at least enjoy December Mfo. Then around Valentine's, I don’t know.” Tragically, he did not even make it a few more days, dying unexpectedly in a shooting before the year ended.

Social media comments following the news included a Twitter user, @TmPhuthu, who remarked on the perceived danger: “Imagine these people can send hitmen while they are in prison. Stay safe, broer, these people hate you.” Another comment, from Mich, simply said, “Done bru, say your goodbyes.”

Warras was not only widely known in the entertainment industry as a DJ but also as a public speaker who would bravely express his thoughts, regardless of their political nature, as long as they were the truth to him. This made people discuss him being targeted by those powerful people he talks about.

After his death, the fans noted with shock that the rest in peace in advance were going to be real, especially when he died in a mysterious shooting.
