Hollywood star Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, have been found dead at their Los Angeles home on Sunday, December 14, multiple reports have confirmed.

According to CNN, a family member discovered the bodies of the 78-year-old director and actor, as well as his wife, who was 68. The publication added that the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) responded to a death investigation at Reiner’s home on Sunday afternoon.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the Reiner family described the loss as “tragic” and requested privacy during this time.

“It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner. We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time,” the spokesperson said in a statement.

No additional details were immediately available.

Rob, who more recently starred in New Girl and The Bear, began his career in the 1960s as a comedy writer, working as Steve Martin’s writing partner. In the 1970s, he starred as Michael Stivic - also known as “Meathead” — on All in the Family, earning two Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series.

He made his directorial debut with the 1984 mockumentary This Is Spinal Tap, before going on to direct iconic films such as Stand By Me, The Princess Bride and When Harry Met Sally….

It was while working on the latter that he met Michele, who was a photographer at the time. The pair began dating and married in 1989.

Rob continued directing throughout their more than 35-year marriage, spearheading acclaimed productions including Misery, A Few Good Men, The American President, The Bucket List and Spinal Tap II: The End Continues.
