Barkly West singer hopes to inspire through music

IN THE heart of the Northern Cape, a hopeful young artist is hoping to make waves with a voice that carries more than melody; it carries hope, healing, redemption, and love. Oratile ZA, a vocalist, music director, and creative artist, has become a rising talent in the local music scene in the Northern Cape, captivating audiences with performances that resonate far beyond the stage.

Oratile’s journey began in 2014 at the age of 14, when a simple invitation to join his church choir revealed a hidden talent. “People noticed something special about me,” he recalls. “Even though I was new to music, I picked up reading notes quickly. Singing a acapella with friends at school was fun, and that’s when I thought, ‘Maybe I can do music!’” By 2015, he had joined his school choir and contributed to several local churches, steadily developing his craft and laying the foundation for his career.

Growing up in Barkly West presented its challenges. Opportunities for young talent are scarce, and many peers give up along the way. “Keeping faith is hard, but that shaped me to take this path,” Oratile says. His experiences have deeply influenced his style and perspective as an artist, driving him to create music that inspires and uplifts.

At the core of Oratile’s music are themes of hope, healing, redemption, and love. Drawing inspiration from personal experience and faith, he aims to reach listeners on a deeply emotional level. “Through my music, I hope to show that even when opportunities are scarce, people can still achieve their dreams. My voice is my weapon to heal, and I want it to be heard,” he explains. “No matter the struggle, we can rise above, and we can still spread love despite our differences.”

Oratile’s dual role as vocalist and music director allows him to explore the creative process from different angles. On stage, he interprets songs, diving into lyrics and connecting emotionally with audiences. As a music director, he approaches production with an analytical mindset, shaping sound, arranging harmonies, and ensuring each element comes together seamlessly. “Both processes are creative, but they are two sides of the same coin,” he says. “As a vocalist, I interpret. As a director, I shape the vision.”

Some performances have left a lasting mark on both Oratile and his audience. One standout moment came at the Annual Family Day at Vaal Inn Resort in his hometown. “Seeing the crowd’s happiness as I took the stage was life-changing,” he reflects. More recently, performing at The Diamond Gospel Music Awards at the Northern Cape Theatre in September 2025 allowed him to reach a wider audience and solidify his name in the community.

Faith remains central to Oratile’s music and life. Growing up in a spiritual family instilled values that guide his storytelling and the messages in his art. “My faith isn’t just a part of my life—it is my life,” he says. “It pours into everything I create.”

Collaboration also plays a key role in his journey. Oratile has worked with talented local artists and looks forward to future projects with musicians who share his vision of meaningful, uplifting music.

The path has not been without obstacles. Financial pressures and the quest for recognition in a competitive industry have tested him, but he remains steadfast. “Staying humble, focused, and believing in the value of my work has kept me grounded and driven,” he notes.

Looking to the future, Oratile has big aspirations. He hopes to bring pride to the Northern Cape by performing at larger venues, consistently creating music that resonates, and using his gift to inspire others. “Ultimately, I want my music to connect with people seeking peace, healing, and hope. I want to share my passion, energy, and love with the world,” he says.
