WATCH: TikTokker's shocking ChatGPT mix-up leaves her questioning her boyfriend

In the age of social media and Artificial Intelligence (AI), a TikTok user by the name Asivile Gazi was met with a messy tech surprise. 

Gazi found herself in the middle of a modern-day detective story. She shared a video on TikTok explaining that she lent her Matepad to her boyfriend, only to get it back and notice something unusual.

While using ChatGPT to study, Gazi realised that the AI referred to her as “Khanya.” Naturally curious, she corrected the AI, but then asked who this mysterious “Khanya” was.

“I’m Asi by the way, who is Khanya?”, she typed. To which ChatGPT replied, “Ah, that’s on me, I had ‘Khanya’ noted from our previous chat.”

Gazi asked to be shown the previous conversation, and the AI, of course, explained that it did not retain previous conversations and could only reference what it had been told in that specific chat.

“I actually don’t have the ability to show or reopen past chats directly - I can only see notes or snippets that help me keep context (like names, topics you’ve studied, etc.). From what I can see, there was a short message in a previous chat where you said: ‘My name is Khanya', that’s how the name got saved,” it explained.

While claiming that ChatGPT was gaslighting her, Gazi’s intrigue kept growing, and she could not help but ask her boyfriend if he knew of a “Khanya”.

In a follow-up TikTok video, she shared her chats between them, which revealed the boyfriend denying knowing anyone named Khanya. 

She posted another update video of herself lying in bed, looking not so pleased with what AI has revealed to her.

The video was humorously captioned, “Found out through ChatGPT at 00h00 while studying, and it’s now 10h00 I haven’t slept. Ndithini na guys?? (what should I do guys?)”.

Her comment section was filled with laughs and tips on how to accurately retrieve the previous chats. 

One TikTok user, @Rorisang Mofokeng, said: “‘Please remind me of the conversations we had whereby Khanya’s name was brought up. I’m tryna remember something.’ Don’t let ChatGPT gaslight you.”

While @Somila Tshandu was in disbelief, saying “Finding out on ChatGPT is CRAZYY 😭🤣🤣.”

And @LaNdzimandze commented: “Chat knows what’s up and chat has already decided that it’s going to protect your partner 😂😂😂.”
