Never one to shy away from boldness, Uncle Waffles showcased two sensational Halloween looks.

Let’s be honest, Halloween has never really been our thing. South Africans don’t exactly line up for pumpkin carving, trick-or-treating, or fake cobweb decor. In fact, one TikToker hilariously said, “We already have enough gqwirhy (witchcraft) in this country, why are we inviting more bad juju?”
And honestly, we get it.
But somehow, every October, the spooky spirit sneaks its way into Mzansi’s nightlife and Instagram feeds, and we’re absolutely living for it.
While the rest of the world might take Halloween too seriously, we’ve made it our own kind of party, less haunted house, more haute couture.
Feast your eyes on these striking looks that redefined a spooky season into a celebration of style and identity.

This past weekend, South Africans joined the global spooky celebration in the most stylish way possible. From horror-inspired looks to pop-culture recreations, celebs and influencers didn’t just dress up; they performed.
Halloween may have originally American roots, but it was actually a Celtic festival called Samhain. However, South Africans have repurposed it into a full-on fashion moment. It’s not about ghosts or ghouls here; it’s about creativity, identity, and pure showmanship.
From Zola Nombona to DBN Gogo, Uncle Waffles, and Tyla, the stars brought serious main-character energy to Halloween 2025.
And while we might not have front porches full of pumpkins, our celebs are clearly saying: who needs trick-or-treating when you have TikTok, glam squads, and photographers on standby?
The looks that gave us chills (in a good way) below:
DBN Gogo stole the internet’s heart with her hilarious tribute to reality TV queen Nene Leakes' viral “I said what I said!” moment.

DBN Gogo
DBN Gogo, affectionately known as uMah ka Mah, won the internet this year with her hilarious and spot-on recreation of reality TV queen Nene Leakes’ viral “I said what I said!” moment.
Her black-and-orange outfit, paired with six-inch heels, was a chef’s kiss. Even Nene herself reposted it with love. “That’s the one!” she wrote on her Instagram story.
Uncle Waffles
Uncle Waffles, never one to do things halfway, had two major Halloween looks. First, the “Tanzania” hitmaker dressed as the outrageous hormone monster Connie from Netflix’s "Big Mouth", a playful, cheeky nod to animated chaos.
Her second look was iconic. She channelled Beyoncé’s Josephine Baker-inspired costume, complete with the banana skirt and matching moves. Even Grammy-winner Tyla commented “Cute 🩷” on her post.

Tyla paid homage to our favourite gif
Speaking of Tyla, the “Water” superstar had fans in stitches when she recreated one of the internet’s most famous memes, Neveah’s viral laughing GIF for Halloween.
Dressed in a beige hoodie, short bob, and Neveah’s trademark edges, Tyla proved you don’t need fake blood to slay spooky season.
Zee Nxumalo
Zee Nxumalo, our Amapiano sweetheart, tapped into local folklore with her chilling yet stylish Pinky Pinky look.
The fictional bathroom ghost many South Africans grew up fearing became her fashion statement: pink mini skirt, knotted tee, fake blood, and eerie school bathroom backdrop.
Then, in a total switch-up, she paid homage to the late Lebo Mathosa's beaded bralet, blonde hair, and fierce Boom Shaka energy. It was two looks, one legend.

Reason and Gigi Lamayne
While Reason and Gigi Lamayne gave us chaotic couple energy as Harley Quinn and the Joker, inspired by Margot Robbie and Jared Leto’s "Suicide Squad".
Stealing the spotlight yet again, Zola gave a seductive interpretation of Jared Leto's Joker in glamorous purple and green attire, even quoting Leto’s famous line, “Would you die for me?”

Zola Nombona
And then there was Zola Nombona, who stole the spotlight with her seductive take on the Joker himself.
Dressed in purple and green glam, she dropped one of Jared Leto’s most famous lines from the film, “Would you die for me?”, channelling pure chaos and charm in one look.
Fans were obsessed, calling her “the hottest Joker South Africa’s ever seen.”
For many people, Halloween has less to do with horror and more to do with self-expression. “It’s the one day of the year where you can literally be anyone or anything you want.
Halloween in South Africa isn’t about tradition, it’s about participation.” We’ve embraced it as a social experience, not a spiritual one. In other words, it’s just good fun, argue netizens over the chaotic contest online
And the internet agrees.
X (formerly Twitter) users crowned DBN Gogo “Best Dressed 2025” after Major League DJz posted, “She won Halloween 😫🔥🙌🏾.” Fans echoed the sentiment, with one user writing, “If there was a Mzansi Met Gala, this would be it.”
