First South African Walmart to open at Clearwater Mall, creating more than 80 new jobs

South Africa will welcome its first Walmart store at Clearwater Mall in Roodepoort, bringing new employment opportunities and a fresh shopping option for the West Rand community.

The store is set to create more than 80 positions, from shop floor roles to management, offering locals a chance to be part of the American retail giant’s debut in the country.

“Being selected as the location for South Africa’s first Walmart store demonstrates our commitment to the West Rand community,” said Kelly Belman, general manager of Clearwater Mall. “The creation of more than 80 new jobs adds real economic value to our region, which makes this announcement even more meaningful.”

Walmart will offer a range of products, including fresh and frozen foods, groceries, health and beauty items, clothing, baby essentials, homeware, electronics, toys and seasonal products. The majority of merchandise will be sourced from South African suppliers, alongside select international products such as the Beautiful range by actress Drew Barrymore.

The store will be located on the upper level of Clearwater Mall, at Hendrik Potgieter Road and Christiaan de Wet Road, Strubens Valley. The official opening date will be announced in the coming weeks.
