In a recent community-driven initiative, the His Grace Tabernacle Development (HGTD) recently hosted a comprehensive outreach event at Lucretia Primary School in Pescodia. As part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the event aimed to educate and empower young learners about crucial health and social issues.
The event, designed for Grade 5 to 7 learners, covered a range of topics, including cancer awareness, gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF), anti-bullying, and female hygiene. The programme, under the theme: Bringing Back The Dignity of a Girl Child, featured key guest speakers and specialists from various institutions, including SAPS Roodepan's Anti-Bullying and GBVF Units, medical professionals from Lenmed Oncology Department and HCT Unit Roodepan Community Health Centre, and representatives from the Northern Cape Department of Education.
The interactive discussions and presentations helped create a safe environment for learners to ask questions and share their thoughts. The event's success was evident in the enthusiasm and engagement of the learners, who welcomed the session with excitement and interest.
HGTD distributed over 400 sanitary pads to the girl learners at the school, reinforcing the organisation's commitment to promoting female dignity, health, and empowerment.
Charles Seabela, HGTD Project Manager, expressed his gratitude to all partners who made the event possible, highlighting the importance of addressing social and health challenges at the grassroots level. "Such efforts help prepare a generation that is informed, empowered, and ready to contribute positively to society," he said.
