After a smooth opening night in Cincinnati, things took a turn during the second stop of Brandy and Monica’s “The Boy Is Mine” tour in Chicago, where Brandy abruptly walked off stage mid-performance.
The tour, which began on October 16, has been one of R&B’s most talked-about events this season.
Brandy and Monica launched it alongside Kelly Rowland and Muni Long, delivering not only strong vocals but bold fashion moments and nostalgic performances that had fans raving online.
However, just a day after the tour’s successful debut, the Chicago show left fans unhappy and shocked.
While performing at the United Center on Saturday night, Brandy appeared frustrated with sound issues before walking off stage mid-song.
She walked off and went straight to the sound crew in an attempt to fix the sound issue that persisted during her performance.
“Give me one second y’all, I gotta get my…” she said to the audience while backstage. The songstress never returned, leaving Monica to close out the show alone.
The pair’s signature duet, “The Boy Is Mine”, which had been a highlight of the tour’s first night, was not part of the set, according to attendees. Fans quickly took to social media to share their confusion and disappointment.
“I went to the Chicago Boy Is Mine Tour stop. Brandy walked off stage & said sum like ‘give me a sec y'all.’ We never saw her again,” tweeted one concertgoer, @Phrozenthunda.
“Imagine going to The Boy Is Mine Tour and they never play the song. Brandy walked off mid-set, cut her mic mid-sentence, and never came back,” said @csandreas.
Following the incident, Brandy released a statement addressing what happened. In her note to fans, she explained that she experienced dehydration and felt faint during the show.
“After weeks of nonstop rehearsals, last night I experienced dehydration and feelings of wanting to faint. Everyone involved agreed that prioritising my well-being was of the utmost importance,” she wrote.
“I still made the decision to try and return and give it my all despite not feeling ok. With having to make adjustments and the show being very technical, unfortunately, it was impossible to fully connect sonically with the production. I’m deeply grateful to my sister Monica for stepping up with such grace and professionalism,” she added.
Brandy also shared that she received medical attention immediately after the show and has since taken the necessary steps to recover.
Despite the unexpected interruption, she returned to the stage the following night (Sunday) in Indianapolis, where fans praised her comeback performance.
“I was really worried about my concert tonight after hearing what happened at ‘The Boy Is Mine’ tour in Chicago. But Brandy was great tonight y’all,” said @notebookninja_.
The tour continues across the United States, with upcoming stops in cities including Detroit, New York and Miami, before wrapping up on December 14 in Jacksonville, Florida.
