A YOUNG woman from KwaZulu-Natal has won a life-changing R5.3 million Lotto jackpot - using the same numbers her late father always played.

The woman, in her 20s, was one of two winners in the February 12, 2025, Lotto draw, which boasted a R10.6 million jackpot. She purchased her winning ticket at a Shoprite in Melmoth, KZN, placing a R5 wager and selecting the numbers manually.

Her story is one of resilience and hope. Having lost both parents, she and her sister have taken on the responsibility of raising their younger siblings, navigating many challenges along the way.

"This win will change our circumstances," she said, expressing her gratitude. "We will now have a beautiful, suitable home, and I can ensure my siblings receive a proper education."

She fondly recalled her father’s love for Lotto, driven by his hope for a better future. "He played Lotto often. I found an old ticket of his and decided to play his numbers. I never expected this outcome."

The winner plans to invest a significant portion of her prize, ensuring long-term financial stability for herself and her family.

Ithuba CEO Charmaine Mabuza congratulated the winner, saying, "This heart-warming story highlights the true purpose of the National Lottery – to give people hope and a chance to change their lives for the better. We are overjoyed to have played a role in changing the life of this remarkable young woman and her family."
