Music streaming giant unveils the class of 2025: meet the next generation of African superstars
Apple Music has identified five emerging African artists, who are set to make waves in the global music scene.
The Africa Rising initiative has announced their Class of '25, a list of the next generation of African superstars.
Since its inception in 2020, this artist development programme has provided a vital platform, allowing rising stars to reach global audiences and connect with music lovers all over the world.
This year’s recipients hail from across the continent and include South African singer-songwriter Lusanda, Nigerian Afrobeats artist and producer KAESTYLE, Kenyan indie-soul sensation Njerae, Nigerian singer, songwriter and producer FOLA and rising Ghanaian beatmaker AratheJay.
For these artists, the recognition from the streaming platform signifies more than just an honour, it’s a unique opportunity to amplify their music and story.
Lusanda shared: “My music displays a personal perspective on what it is to be African. To be recognised as a representative and advocate for our music on a world stage is a responsibility I don't take lightly.”
The “When You’re Around” hitmaker added that she is excited to share more of what she’s been writing and recording.
“Songs to sing along to, to cry to, to laugh to and enjoy in people's everyday lives. This year I'm collaborating with amazing producers and songwriters across genres, both from the continent and beyond. I can't wait for you to hear how it all comes together,” she said.
Meanwhile, KAESTYLE shared his fans can expect more great music this year and maybe even an album.
“Who Does That?” hitmaker FOLA said his aim is to create music that transcends borders and speaks to diverse listeners.
“I'm focused on strengthening my presence in the Nigerian music scene whilst also pushing boundaries ... I'm putting in more work than ever to bring you something truly special.”
Similarly, Ghana's AratheJay shared his enthusiasm, saying: “The best is yet to come! Stay tuned for some surprises from Ghana, Africa and beyond, because this year is going to be my year of global domination, all by the grace of God.”
Universal Music East Africa signed artist Njerae commented: “I am very excited for global audiences to listen to my music, as I believe this is a pivotal moment for the creative community in Kenya. Shout out to Apple Music for believing in me and supporting my journey.”
