South African duo Major League DJz has addressed Kenyan fans in a statement released on Tuesday, November 25, clarifying their position regarding an upcoming event that has circulated online.

“We want to clear the air and speak directly to you… Our incredible Kenyan supporters,” the statement read.

“Please don’t let false narratives create any distance between us. The recent event circulating online had no involvement from us. We had no agreement, no site visit and no communication with the promoters behind it. In fact, we’ve never even heard of them."

"We found out about the show when it was posted online. All monies that were paid in our name were rejected by Forex. This we have no control over. Banks speak to banks.”

The statement emphasised that the duo has deliberately held off performing in Kenya to ensure a proper experience for their fans.

“We’ve intentionally held off from performing in Kenya because we’re planning something truly specialised - bringing you the full Balcony Mix Africa experience, just like we do it back home in South Africa… with proper production, sound, visuals and energy that matches the love you’ve shown us for years.

Please, moving forward, always use our official booking details and emails listed on our public platforms. Avoid middlemen or third-party promoters. We love you deeply, Kenya, and we’re coming. See you in 2026.”

This statement follows communication regarding the South African act’s scheduled performance at The Afters KE African Music Festival in Mombasa next month.

Last week, the festival organisers announced that the DJz had been removed from the festival line-up. The festival statement cited “unavoidable circumstances” and said that the decision followed “recent discussions with their team. Any further details regarding this matter will be shared at the appropriate time.”

On Monday, November 24, three Kenyan entertainment companies - The Afters KE, 6AM Entertainment and The Human Discretion Company - issued a joint statement regarding repeated contractual failures by the DJz and their management team.

The statement detailed financial losses, broken commitments and audience disappointment from prior engagements.

“We, the undersigned, have collectively engaged Major League DJz for contracted performances in Kenya on multiple, separate occasions,” the statement read.

“Despite fulfilling all financial and logistical requirements on our part, the artist and their management have consistently failed to honour their commitments, resulting in significant financial losses for our companies and immense disappointment for the Kenyan public.”

The companies outlined three specific shows that were affected by no-shows:

  • PianoFest by 6AM Kenya, scheduled at Ngong RaceCourse Waterfront on July 31, 2021.
  • Double Revolution by The Human Discretion Company, scheduled at The Winning Post on December 24, 2022.
  • The Afters KE African Music Festival, set for Fort Jesus Museum, December 12-13, 2025.

The joint statement said that on each occasion, the DJz or their management received full or partial performance fees, including arrangements for premium, business-class travel for the artists and their entourage.

Despite this, the duo repeatedly failed to perform and did not provide restitution.

“A concrete example of this pattern relates to the show organised by The Afters KE scheduled for December 12 and 13, 2025. Despite Major League DJz receiving 50 per cent of the contracted performance fees for this event, they have since refused to attend or perform."

"Their management has repeatedly made and then broken promises to refund the substantial booking fee, leaving The Afters KE in a critical position just weeks before the planned dates,” the statement read.

The companies stressed that this is not an isolated issue.

“These are not isolated incidents but a recurring pattern of professional misconduct that has resulted in direct financial harm to Kenyan businesses and event organisers, while also undermining public trust in the regional entertainment sector,” the statement added.

The joint statement concluded with a call for clarity and accountability.

“We wish to make it unequivocally clear to the general public, our loyal patrons and our business partners that the failure of these shows rests entirely with Major League DJz and their management."

"Our companies acted in good faith, upholding all contractual obligations and are now collaboratively pursuing all available legal avenues to recover the funds and damages incurred. We thank the Kenyan music community for its understanding and continued support, and we remain dedicated to delivering high-quality, professional entertainment experiences.”
