American actress and singer Jennifer Lopez and her ex-husband, Ben Affleck, were spotted for the first time in public at the premiere of “Kiss of the Spider Woman” on Monday, October 6, in New York.
The pair, who got divorced in 2024, posed together on the red carpet, and before the screening, Lopez gave Affleck recognition for his involvement in producing the movie.
According to “People”, Lopez shared: “Thank you so much, thank you everybody for being here tonight. Thank you, Ben, this movie wouldn’t have been made without Ben and without Artist Equity.”
“I read the script, if you know, I was in bed and I was just floored. I was just like, could this be happening right now? I get to sing, I get to dance, I get to act. I get to be an old-time Hollywood movie star,” she shared.
This 2025 musical drama film is an adaptation of a 1976 novel by Manuel Puig, and it is about two cellmates in an Argentine prison, Molina and Valentín, and the intimate bond they form in the process.
Lopez portrays the role of Ingrid Luna, a green screen character who is central to the fantasy world of Luis Molina, a gay hairdresser imprisoned in Argentina.
To escape his harsh reality, Molina imagines movies featuring Luna, including one where she portrays the mythical Spider Woman who kills her prey with a kiss.
During her appearance on “USA Today”, she gave her ex-husband credit for producing the movie.
“If it wasn’t for Ben, the movie wouldn’t have gotten made. And I will always give him that credit,” she said.
Lopez further added on the matter of their divorce that things occur, but life has to go on, “Things happen, you have to keep going.”
The actress further added that filming the movie has been such a healing experience for her and it has also been a dream of hers to be a part of this movie.
“It’s funny, the movie is about escapism. It’s about how movies and art save us in the hardest times of our lives.
“Doing this project was such a dream come true for me that it really got me through to kind of survive a moment that was difficult in my personal life as well,” she revealed.
