Mariah Carey wants to know what your type is because hers is “dangerous”. The songbird supreme is back!
After a nearly seven-year album hiatus since her 15th studio album “Cautious” in 2018, the pop legend is coming back with a bang.
The 56-year-old singer-songwriter has announced that she is dropping a new single, “Type: Dangerous”, on Friday, June 6.
On Monday, June 2, the “Shake It Off” singer took to her Instagram to share a short, thought-provoking video that instantly ignited speculation. The caption reads: “What’s your type?”
In the clip, she is seated in a black McLaren convertible, applying lip gloss while listening to her 2005 hit “It’s Like That” as she changes the song to a track titled “T:D_MC16.mp3”.
“To show my appreciation for your support, thank you, DJs,” she says as the beat continues.
The video then pans to the car’s number plate, which displays “MC16”, which alone has sent her fans into a frenzy as they wondered if a new album is on the horizon after she teased a single.
In the second video that she posted, she is seated in the car again while music plays on the radio with the engine loudly running before the shot cuts to a message reading, “June 6”. This now confirms that a new single by the iconic singer is on its way.
The news comes after she celebrated the 20th anniversary of her 2005 chart-topping album, “The Emancipation of Mimi”, which, according to “Billboard”, spent two weeks at number one back in 2005.
To mark this milestone, on May 30, she released a deluxe 2LP vinyl set edition, which includes the original tracklist plus the people’s favourite, “We Belong Together”, as well as the premium 5LP vinyl box set along with a cappella renditions of “Shake It Off” “Circles” and “Joy Ride”
It features exclusive fan content, including a personal letter from Carey, her never-before-seen 28-page booklet with her photos, and three additional discs packed with remixes and rare versions.
The remixes feature the likes of Solange, Kaytranada, David Morales and Scott Storch.
