TOYOTA GAZOO Racing South Africa (TGRSA) returns with its full line‑up this weekend as the 2025 South African Touring Car Championship (SATC) and SupaCup head to the fearsome East London Grand Prix Circuit.

With three GR Corollas entered in the SATC series and the GR SupaStarlet in SupaCup, the team will be looking to carry forward their strong momentum into the Eastern Cape.

The historic circuit, known for its sweeping high-speed corners like Potter’s Pass and Rifle Bend, also features a technically demanding infield complex and abrasive surfacing – a combination that promises to test both driver precision and tyre management across the weekend.

SupaCup

Things will be spicy, as the SupaCup battle also continues to heat up, with Dawie van der Merwe steadily climbing the standings in the GR SupaStarlet. Currently holding a top-five position in the championship, Van der Merwe has shown growing confidence and consistency throughout the season.

This weekend’s fast and flowing East London circuit will be a fresh challenge, especially given its abrasive surface and demanding layout – but his improving racecraft and the team's preparations could prove decisive.

SA Touring Car Championship

The SATC Drivers’ Championship remains finely balanced. TGRSA’s Michael van Rooyen holds onto the points lead after Round 4, having secured podium finishes in every round so far. Saood Variawa, who joined from Round 2, is also in title contention thanks to a string of strong performances. Meanwhile, Nathi Msimanga continues his impressive climb up the standings, increasing his pace with each outing.

Toyota maintains its lead in the Manufacturers’ Championship, with the GR Corollas delivering the consistency and performance needed to stay ahead. And consistency will be what’s needed with East London’s mix of fast straights and tight corners lying in wait to test aerodynamic setup, tyre wear, and race strategy – all critical components in a tight championship battle.

The weekend schedule features practice sessions on Friday, followed by Qualifying and two decisive races on Saturday. With fine, mild weather expected and largely sunny skies forecast, track conditions should be optimal for both categories.

And with all this taken into account, TGRSA enters Round 5 with determination and focus, aiming to return home with strong results and vital championship points as the battle for both titles intensifies.
