Gopolang Makatise brings captaincy experience to the Sol Plaatje University (SPU) cricket team. He says that one of his proudest memories is when he captained his home team, the Kalahari Eye Warriors, to victory in their first Under-19 schools league.

Born in Cape Town, Gopolang grew up in Kuruman, and was initially interested in soccer. However, one day his older brother invited him to join in a game of cricket. Something about that game sparked his lasting love for the sport.

He put soccer behind him because he found his passion on the cricket field.

A dreamer with his eyes set on Lord’s Cricket Ground, Gopolang prepares for each match by listening to music to clear his mind and boost his energy. He describes himself as positive, mindful, and eager – traits that reflect both his character and approach to the game.

Dedicated to growth, Gopolang is grateful to be part of the SPU cricket family, where he continues to learn, evolve, and play with passion for both his team and the community he proudly represents.
