Diamantveld netball shines at Northern Cape qualifiers

Diamantveld High School’s netball squads delivered an impressive showing at the recent Northern Cape provincial qualifiers, held over two action-packed days.

Demonstrating talent, teamwork, and determination, the school's players proved themselves as strong contenders, with both the Under-15A and Under-17A teams qualifying to represent the province at the upcoming South African Schools Championships.

Across multiple age groups, Diamantveld registered impressive victories. The Under-15A side remained unbeaten throughout their campaign, notching six straight wins over De Aar, Augrabies, SA van Wyk, Curro Kathu, Duineveld, and Upington. Their narrow 13-12 and 16-12 victories in the final rounds underlined their grit under pressure and ultimately secured them the title of Northern Cape champions in their division.

Not to be outdone, the Under-17A team also enjoyed a flawless run, dispatching Danielskuil (20-4), Wrenchville (46-0), De Aar (23-8), and Douglas (26-8) to claim top honours in their category.

Their dominant scorelines reflected a well-drilled unit hungry for national competition.

The Under-14A team impressed with four wins and a narrow 11-12 loss to Upington, finishing third overall. The Under-16A side mirrored this result, ending their campaign in third place after a tightly contested 13-15 defeat against Upington. The senior Under-19A team showed strength with wins against Hopetown and Kalahari, ultimately also finishing third in the province.

Diamantveld’s netball programme continues to grow from strength to strength, with the latest results affirming the school’s reputation as a breeding ground for sporting excellence in the Northern Cape. The success of the Under-15 and Under-17 squads speaks volumes about the depth of talent and the quality of coaching at the school.

With their spots secured for the national championships, the players now turn their attention to preparation and fine-tuning. As the province’s top contenders, the road to national glory is both a challenge and an opportunity, one that these determined young athletes are ready to embrace.
