His efforts saw South Africa secure an early lead in Group B and earned him the Player of the Match award.
Unfazed by the pressure, Witbooi revealed what drives him: “I enjoy organising the play and helping my teammates excel. Our performance showed our character as a team – resilient and determined.”
South Africa’s Under-17 coach, Vela Khumalo, commended his team’s determination against Egypt. This morale boost comes just in time for their next group-stage encounter against Cameroon on Thursday, where all eyes will again be on Witbooi to lead the charge.
