A FLOOD warning has been issued in the Namakwa district due to heavy rainstorms, where motorists have been advised to exercise extreme caution on the DR2972 and MR745.
Spokesperson for the Department of Roads and Public Works, Zandisile Luphahla, on Wednesday said the Granaatboskolk road (DR2972), near Loeriesfontein, was currently flooded.
"The river is in full flood, and the current is extremely strong. Pedestrians and motorists are strongly advised not to attempt crossing the river and to use alternative routes for their safety.
"Due to continuous rainfall in Springbok and surrounding areas, water levels in streams and rivers have risen significantly."
He also urged the public to exercise extreme caution as Buffelsriver was also overflowing.
"The MR745 Buffelsrivier low-water bridge is impassable, and the low-water bridge on the Kamasies to Rooifontein Road (DR2294) should be avoided due to flooding."
He advised motorists to make use of alternative routes and warned pedestrians and cyclists to avoid crossing any streams or flooded roads, whether on foot or by vehicle.
